Abandoned Homeless Camps and Bicycle Jumps at Des Moines Creek Park Cleaned Up

In late December, the Port of Seattle alerted  SeaTac Parks, Community Programs & Services about a couple of abandoned homeless camps within a remote location of Des Moines Creek Park. Due to the nature of items discovered at each camp and safety of parks employees, staff contacted King County Solid Waste Division. King County Solid Waste Division offers cleanup services at no charge to municipalities for homeless camp cleanup and dumping on public property. Utilizing this grant funded program, the camps have been cleaned up at no cost to the city.

In addition, an unauthorized BMX jump course was discovered in close proximity to the camps. Park maintenance employees have since removed the jumps.

This area of the Des Moines Creek Park is now monitored weekly by park maintenance to ensure the activities do not resume.
