The Economic Development division at the City of SeaTac is passionate about keeping up with best practices to ensure that both residents and businesses benefit from the latest research, analysis and programs in the economic development community.

The division is engaged with the International Economic Development Council, which held a conference in early October.  The conference was attended by over 1,200 international professionals to participate in trainings and case studies on current best practices in the industry.

For context, the SeaTac Economic Development division is a member of the International Economic Development Council, which is a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization serving economic development professionals. With more than 5,000 members, the IEDC is the largest organization of its kind. The IEDC provides education and certification to support economic developers in enabling economic well-being and quality of life for their communities through creation, retention and expansion of jobs and businesses that facilitate growth, enhance wealth and provide a stable tax base.

Some of the takeaways that the team had this year were in the areas of business retention, real estate redevelopment and reinvestment, retraining workforce to spur economic development and regional innovation hubs.
