With the 4th of July right around the corner, it is a good time to familiarize yourself with the official City of SeaTac fireworks ordinance.

Not all cities and counties have the same rules, so be sure to be aware of what’s legal and when it is legal to set it off, as well as what’s illegal and the associated penalties. Be sure to obey the rules and have a happy and safe 4th of July.

What’s Legal?

  • Sparklers
  • Ground devices

When are they legal?

  • From 12:00 noon to 11:00 p.m. on June 28th of each year
  • From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on each day from June 29th through July 3rd of each year
  • From 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight on July 4th of each year
  • From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on July 5th of each year

What’s Illegal?

  • Aerial fireworks
  • Airborne fireworks
  • Fireworks that are discharged
  • Fireworks that are launched
  • Fireworks that explode
  • Possessing or discharging in any city park

What are the penalties?

  • Civil infraction with a $250 penalty for a parent, guardian, or other person having control of custody of a person under the age of 18 to authorize or permit such person to violate any provision of this chapter.
  • Unlawful for any person under the age of 16 to possess, use, discharge or transport any fireworks unless under immediate supervision of an adult who is 18 or older.
  • Any person who violates any portion of this chapter shall have their fireworks subject to seizure by the SeaTac Police Chief or designee.
